Rachel's legacy has touched the hearts of millions, even after death. Rachel was the kind of girl who cared about everyone, was friends with everyone, and never turned away from God. She shined God's light in everything she did, and wasn't ashamed to show her Christian faith.
Her legacy of compassion lives on, partly through Rachel's Challenge, a non-profit organization started by Darrell Scott, her father. He and other volunteers, including her brother, Craig, and her uncle, travel across the nation talking about Rachel and Columbine. My school had the honor of having a representative come to our school and talk to us. I, along with many others, are now part of a club called "Chain Links", that promotes our school to be a better place. The sad thing is, before Rachel's Challenge, I'd never even HEARD of Rachel Scott, or even Columbine. Most of my classmates hadn't either. We're not always open to those opportunities, especially when you were one or two years old when it happened. But it's a real eye opener when you hear about everything that's happened in the world, and not just in your own tiny little bubble.

Rachel won the 2001 National Kindness Award for Student of the Year by the Acts of Kindness Association. In 2006, the National Education Association awarded Darrell Scott and Rachel's Challenge the Friend of Education Award. In June, 2009, Darrell Scott won the honor of being the Colorado Rockies "All-Star Among Us" winner.
Rachel's legacy lives on, and it will continue to thrive as long as we never forget that a little compassion can go a long way.

ReplyDeleteWe all cared about Rachel. I never met her in real life but I hope someday I can reach the hearts of people like she did. She changed the lives of people by being their friend. She started the chain Reaction and we all should continue it for her. If you don't do the chain reaction at your school then u should speak up about it!!!!!
ReplyDeleteI agree with you!!!!!! She was one of the people who didn't care if she was unpopular, she would help people because she wanted to. We should all look up to her. Because of her a lot of people show kindness to others. I used to bully kids in my grade. I didn't know it was wrong. I was in 2nd and 3rd when I bullied people. I was hurt. I had been their since pre-k and in first grade during recess id just sit on the stairs because no one wanted to play with me. Now I know it's wrong to bully, but the past is the past and now im a NEW me
