Rachel Joy Scott only got to live out seventeen years on this earth before her life was brutally taken from her, but she lived that life to the fullest.
Rachel died on April 20, 1999 at Columbine High School, in one of the deadliest school shootings in history. She was outside eating lunch with a friend, Richard Castaldo. She was the first victim to be killed in the shootings, caused by four gunshots to her head, chest, arm, and leg. At first, it was said that one of the shooters asked her if she believed in God, to which she replied "You know I do" and was then shot to death. The FBI later said this exchange did not happen, and was thought to have happened to Cassie Bernall or Val Schnurr. Whoever the exchange happened with, if it happened at all, I am pretty sure that would've been Rachel's reply anyhow.
Rachel's funeral took place on April 24, 1999 and was attended by more than 2,000 people. It was televised on CNN, and was the most watched event on CNN, even surpassing the funeral of Princess Diana. Her parents think this would've pleased Rachel, as she often referred to herself as "Queen Rachel" and even changed the answering machine message to "Hello. You have reached the house of Queen Rachel and her servants Larry, Beth, Dana, Craig, and Michael. If you have anything you want them to do for me, please leave a message."
Her legacy of kindness, compassion, and love of God lives on, even more than ten years after her death.

ReplyDeleteRachel was brave and a Hero who deserves to be and is remembered
ReplyDeleteRachel wherever you are you inspired so many hearts each time your name comes in mind. I hope you will be as beautiful as you are on the inside as the same on the out when you are born as a new soul
ReplyDeleteI wished that not only America knows about her life, but the whole world . Rachels Challenge should be promoted all over the globe ,every human needs kindness to be shown to them and as well everybody should give kindness to others . My opinion is that todays human is not focused on the real values, the ethernal ones, but values material things that are passable .We need to turn this society back to its real values if we do not do that the society will not survive but it will destroy itself .Everybody are needy of kindness , love ,empathy ,compassion, acceptance, support, and not bulling abusing ,ignorance ...We try so hard to be above each other that is not the way ! We are all valid no matter the race, age, nacionality...We should all be treated equaly.
ReplyDeleteIT DOES NOT MATTER HOW MANY YEARS ONE HAS LIVED , BUT HOW MANY HEARTS YOU HAVE TOUCHED.RACHEL , YOU HAVE TOUCHED MANY, THANK YOU!
